Infrastructure is the technology and facilities (i.e., hardware, operating systems, database management systems, networking, multimedia, and the environment that houses and supports them) that enable the processing of the applications. The IT infrastructure supports the flow and processing of data electronically.
Examples of the hardware equipment include server and desktop computers; network equipment like routers and switches; and security systems like firewalls and intrusion detection. Software systems include operating systems, network protocols, database systems, and tools and utilities used by the administrators to support the infrastructure.
